Fat grafting, also known as a fat transfer, is a cosmetic surgery that takes fat from one area of the body, harvests and purifies it, and then transplants it to another area. This process is done to add volume to a part of the body that has become deflated or shallow. During a fat transfer procedure, fat is first removed from a donor site (such as the abdomen, waist, inner thighs or knees) through liposuction. Then, the fat will be purified and injected utilizing a small syringe or blunt cannula. Common areas of the body cosmetically treated with a fat transfer include the face, lips, buttocks, and breasts.
