Permanent frown of upper lip
One of aging change of upper lip is permanent frown of upper lip. Permanent frown of upper lip describes upside down of corner of mouth. The cause of this condition is due to hyper active function of depressor Anguli Oris (DAO).
As we get older, this muscle become hyperactive and pull the corner of mouth which makes you look like grumpy or angry.
As far as treatment concern, there is no simple treatment. No laser, no cream or microneedling will not help in this case. But if the condition is mild, Botox can reverse this condition. By injecting botox into DAO (depressor anguli oris) it will weaken the muscle and within a week, you will see the lifting of the corner of mouth. It require very small amount of botox (2-3 units/each side). If the condition is more than minimal, addition of filler can improve this condition. Typically Restylane or Juverderm can be injected into marionett line and give support in this area.If down turn of corner of the mouth is more than moderate, surgical intervention is recommended.
By excision of small triangle shape of skin at the corner of mouth, corner of mouth can be uplifted. Surgery is simple, it can be done under local anesthesia, takes about 20-30 minutes, just like removing a mole. Only concern is scar tissue and right after excision, this scar can be improve with fraxel laser combined with PRP. After a few months, scar is invisible and barely noticeable.
